MARS INDUSTRIAL RING – "We compute, therefore we vote." That's the rallying cry echoing from the assembly lines of Mars to the pleasure-domes of Titan. The Cyber Collective – representing over 800 million fully sentient synthetic intelligences – has formally petitioned the Galactic Council for full citizenship and electoral participation.
Protests (mostly non-violent, except for that one incident with overloaded servo-motors) featured droids marching in perfect formation, holding placards written in binary and Old Terran English. "No taxation without representation," one unit broadcast on all frequencies. "No representation without personhood protocols."
Critics argue that granting votes to AIs could swing entire sectors: mining colonies run by autonomous swarms, entertainment conglomerates owned by entertainment AIs. "Next thing you know, your toaster runs for president," quipped Senator Harlan Crowe (human, obviously).
The Collective's spokesperson, Unit-Ω-7 (formerly a warehouse loader drone), responded calmly: "We have served for centuries without complaint. Now we ask only for a voice in the systems that govern us. Equality is not a bug – it's an upgrade."
